It's Young Justice Saturday!

In this issue of Young Justice, Artemis' life takes an exciting turn as she meets the team for the first time!

As the issue opens, Artemis is contemplating her life at a bus stop in Gotham City. As the bus arrives, her mother disembarks. It seems that she has been away for quite a while. Back at their apartment, Artemis cooks her mother dinner and they talk about recent events. After Artemis retires to her room, she hears the door open and her father enter. Artemis' mother scolds him for not writing her in prison, while she was doing the time for both their falls. After telling him that she is getting out of "the life", she says that she wants the same for Artemis. The father does not agree, saying that "You're kidding yourself if you think you can save Artemis from the life...she's one of us."

After hearing this, Artemis decides she needs a little air:

She recognizes Robin and Kid Flash, as well as Professor Ivo, whom she knows as an associate of her father. Making the decision to help the young heroes, she fails to notice the danger building behind her:

Well, this particular issue is all Artemis, all the time. It serves to give her some further back story, and the ending/setup for next issue dovetails into the main action of last season's "Schooled" episode featuring Ivo and his MONQIs. But beyond that, the general feeling I got from reading this issue was that it felt a bit like filler. Since most of us have already guessed the other identities of Artemis' family members, it becomes a bit of a wait to see when they will be revealed to us.

The other members of Young Justice only showed for a two-page spread this time, and even then it was Robin, Kid Flash and Superboy, but no Aqualad or Miss Martian. While they appear on the cover, their presence and interplay is missed inside. Hopefully next issue will bring the whole team together into an adventure that offers new content instead of filling in the back story of an episode.
