Nightwing
Red Hood & the Outlaws
Stormwatch
GLC

Although I probably won't be able to get all of these. I guess that's what happens when you are 15 with no job...

The Savage Hawkman (big shock)
The Flash
Hawk and Dove
Men of War
Blackhawks

...aaaand that's it. The vast majority of the relaunch does not hold a lot of interest for me. Aquaman was one of the books on the shortlist which came very close to making the cut. Justice League, though? No way.

Oddly: 40% of the "DCnU" (ugh) books I am checking out are non-superhero titles.

Given I'm still not fully sold on the new DCNU (I refuse to type "DCnU"; what a stupidly-spelled acronym) being different tone-wise from the *old* DCU (same writers, thus looks like a lot more of the same shock-value violence from some of the story descriptions; "not for the squeamish" indeed), my choices are rather limited:

Justice League
Superman
Action Comics
Mr. Terrific

...and that's it. I can get my Aquaman fill from JL / his non-mainstream DCU appearances ("Batman: Brave and the Bold", old back-issues, etc.).

I'm getting AQUAMAN and JUSTICE LEAGUE, but besides those, I'm only gonna try MR TERRIFIC and maybe NIGHTWING. Otherwise I'm not too excited about this re-re-re-reboot. I'm actually dropping LSH and JONAH HEX and not replacing them with anything. And iff Aquaman quits the JLA then I'll quit it, too.

If something catches on and has a good buzz then I'll maybe jump on, but I don't have the money to pick and choose to find the wheat in the chaf any more. It's not worth it...literally.

What is wrong with you some of you?
Not buying Aquaman #1? Then why are you even posting?
Calling it a re-re-reboot? Correct me if im wrong but i dont remember DC ever launching its entire publishing line in complete synchronicity. Even COIE failed to do that.

Im getting all 52!

Ryan-

All 52? Wow, that's dedication!

I can understand people's hesitation--sure, this reboot goes further than any previous one, but DC has done the whole "everything you know will change" bit A LOT the last couple of decades, so the skepticism is warranted.

That said, not getting Aquaman #1? That's just crazy talk!

Hmmmm,

besides Aquaman, JL, and Swamp Thing (is Aquaman really appearing in Swamp Thing or did I read that wrong?) I'm looking forward to DC Universe Presents, The Flash, The Savage Hawkman, and maybe Green Arrow.

Andy-

Aquaman's not a regular in ST or anything; but he is in the first issue (see this post for details!)

Luke said...

It's not crazy talk, rob, it's a matter of economics. Some of us can't afford (a-HEM) to buy all the comics we might want to buy when DC relaunches their entire universe. I'd love to have unlimited funds to buy stuff. But I don't, of course. No one really does. So hard choices have to be made.

Honestly? If not for the 2 War books Aquaman would be on my order from DCBS. But DC is giving me the War books which I (and other War comics fans) have asked for. They're giving a "dead" genre a shot and I have to applaud that.

Aquaman -- by Reis and Johns -- is not exactly going to be scarce, if the collection strategy DC has employed on most every other one of Johns's series is an indication.

Luke-

I'm just joshing--I completely understand the concept of limited funds (REALLY I do). I would be buying all 52 as a sort of fun experiment if money permitted it, but that ain't gonna happen.

Its just funny to read anyone leaving a comment on an Aquaman blog is not buying Aquaman #1. :)

Luke said...

I don't know, at least some of the folks commenting on Being Carter Hall are not buying Savage Hawkman... ;)

Brent said...

I understand limited finances as well. I'm getting a bunch of #1s, but will probably only stick with 4 or 5 of them.

But I agree with other comments here — I don't get why someone who takes the time to visit and comment on an Aquaman blog wouldn't be getting his new book. But I guess we'll just have to ramble endlessly about how awesome it is so they'll realize the error of their ways... :)

No slight specifically intended against the Sea King; I'm just still not sold that the tone of the new DCU will be much different (read: less sadistic/shock-value-violence-filled) from the current one, and unfortunately, the "not for the squeamish" description on Aquaman's book didn't help set me at ease much in that regard. (Nor that "let's show alternate-Wonder Woman holding up the decapitated head of alternate-Mera" Flashpoint cover...)

I'll at least still be buying "Justice League"'s first issue, so I won't be completely Aquaman-less... but I guess I just prefer reading lighter-hearted superhero material is all, which I suspect new-DC doesn't seem to have much more of than current-DC...

Aaron said...

I probably WILL by Aquaman #1. I didn't list it because I thought it was kind of a foregone conclusion considering the forum. Honestly, though, ALL of these new superhero books look weirdly angry. And shiny.
