Aquaman #1 Cover Concepts by Ivan Reis!

sg
Here are some of Ivan Reis' original cover concepts for Aquaman #1, again sent to us exclusively by F.O.A.M.er Ivan Costa and approved for posting on the Shrine by Mr. Reis himself! (Click to see a bigger version)

Interesting to see how the cover designs range from Aquaman in a weaker position (upper left), to a more moderate one (bottom left), then all the way to bold, almost-3D shots of the Sea King, where he looks supremely confident (almost king-like, you could say), despite his being surrounded by a horde of really nasty-looking creatures
.

I love seeing behind-the-scenes material like this, I enjoy a peek into someone's creative process. Also--I didn't really think I could get any more excited to read Aquaman #1, but somehow seeing this stuff did it!

Thanks once again to Ivan and Ivan for making today a really exciting one for the Aquaman Shrine!

The third one would have been excellent.

Wow, thanks for sharing this Rob! Awesome stuff! And incredibly cool that they ended up with the more aggressive cover. There's been plenty of covers with Aquaman being attacked, killed, hand chewed off, etc to last a lifetime.

BTW, have you ever done a count of how many times covers have shown Aquaman dead or being attacked or maimed? Would make an interesting post I think, along with your commentary on why it's a disservice to the character. :)

I like the 3rd one, too. Was this sort of refigured as one of the interior panels of the book? I remember a pose where it was a full body, looking up type shot. Or maybe I am remembering wrong.

Either way, still very cool!

This is pretty killer.
Thanks for sharing, Rob.

As much as I love Aquaman, it helps that the creative team looks to be one of the best on all the DCnu books. Otherwise, I might have decided to scrap picking this up and have purged myself completely of DC titles.

These images get my hopes up for at least some visually stunning renditions of our favorite character.
