Flashpoint: Emperor Aquaman #2 Preview

Tune in tomorrow for the Aquaman Shrine's recap of Flashpoint #3 and in the meantime check out DC Comics' preview of the 2nd issue of Emperor Aquaman out next week, right here, right now!

Now, as we mentioned earlier in the week, Emperor Aquaman has not been portrayed in a very sympathetic light thus far in Flashpoint, but perhaps that's all about to change...Writer Tony Bedard has revealed that FP: EA #2 will focus on the secret origin of Emperor Aquaman and reveal the course of events from Arthur Curry's youth that caused him to go down such a radically different and destructive path than the Sea King we all know and love.

There has been much speculation amongst Aqua-fans as to which version of Aquaman's origin will be presented in the new DCU and we are betting our hooks & tridents that certain elements revealed in Flashpoint's history will carry over into the new DCU in September. Will the Orin/Atlan connection from Peter David's 90's Aquaman series fade with the passing of Flashpoint? Or will Aquaman's new origin reconcile elements of both his classic and modern day early years into a new tale that will set the stage for the next generation of Aquaman stories? Your guess is as good as ours, but one thing is for sure, we will be picking up Emperor Aquaman #2 to see what kind of insight we may glean!

Flashpoint Emperor Aquaman
#2 is out Wednesday July 13th. Click for the full preview from DC's Source Blog!

Update: Also out next week is Flashpoint: Deathstroke & the Curse of the Ravager! Witness Emperor Aquaman & his brother Ocean Master kick some super-pirate butt in this preview also from DC's Source Blog!

Update #2 DC Comics has just announced that Flashpoint Emperor Aquaman #1 has SOLD OUT (at the distributor level), thus confirming from a sales standpoint the ushering in of a new wave of popularity for the Sea King!

Will definitely be interesting. I am hoping some Tom Curry stuff carries over!

I'm intrigued by this preview I must admit...Although I am really wondering why Geoff Johns didn't just make Siren Mera's evil twin rather than her younger sister?

The evil twin is one of the most fun literary tropes there is and in her Silver Age stories Mera already had a twin.

Man, here's hoping we can finally ditch all of the "Tarzan underwater" nonsense from PAD's run and get back to his classic origin.
