Adventure Comics #127 - April 1948

sg
Comics Weekend "A Fish Out of Water!" by Don Cameron(?) and John Daly.

It's Adventure Sunday!

Aquaman once again tangles with that scurvy dog, Black Jack--but this time he's got a leg up on the Sea King, who is suffering from amnesia. Let's see how he screws it all up and ends up on the receiving end of Aquaman's fist this time:

The Amnesiac Aquatic Avenger does in fact save the tanker's crew members, which of course causes quite a stir.

Black Jack gets wind of this and approaches the young man, realizing this is indeed his old foe Aquaman. Guessing his amnesia came from the bomb blast, Black Jack offers him a job on his ship:

...and so ends another adventure with Aquaman!

I think this story needed to be just a page or two longer...I would have loved to have seen a little more of Aquaman unknowingly under Black Jack's control. As is, he gets his memory back a little too quickly and deus ex machina-y.

If this story was Black Jack's final appearance, "Amnesia! Bah!" would have been a great exit line...but Aquaman wouldn't be rid of his arch foe quite so easily!

Post Script: Man, do I love this issue's Superboy cover by George Roussos and Stan Kaye: beautifully composed and colored, its a beautiful glimpse of that iconic late 40s/1950s Americana visual style that I find utterly compelling.

*Another* unusual death---someone getting shot by a newsreel camera-with-a-gun-inside?! :-p

Re: Superboy: This issue's story sees Clark substitute for a sick friend with a bellhop's job, while stopping some hotel robberies as Superboy. And yes, a nice cover (guess he's in Metropolis...the idea of whether or not Clark lives in a separate town being inconsistent in these earliest stories).

It's a great view from that penthouse suite, but don't lean back too far.

I wonder what Aquaman's first and only meal as a ship's cook was going to be?

@Anthony--You had to get creative when you kill the villain off in almost every story!

@JBS--I just noticed that--yeah, those railings are dangerously low for a high-rise like that. Yeesh!
