Loving the Aparo! Looks like his stuff anyway. His art has alot more texture and detail than many of his contemporaries. With the Detroit reference, is this from Aquaman vol.1 #56?
Meh. Maybe cuz I'm younger, but this old issues do not thrill me much. Sure they're classic but can we get over them? Especially since this particular iteration of Aquaman has those #$%@ing blACK undies. Ugh. (5 bucks my comment gets deleted! :D Sorry Rob!)
I'm reading the original run of Batman & the Outsiders right now, with gorgeous Aparo art while he was still in his prime. Which are surprisingly entertaining as well. he drew one of my favorite Aquaman's as well. And I for one don't mind the black undies.
Yeah, count me in as preferring the black or dark green underoos over the green tights--it helps break up the form, keeps the green from becoming too dominating. I'm a little surprised at the existence of an anti-underoos Aquaman fan!
By the time I started reading comics Aparo was already nearing retirement, but I still love his stuff--One of the greats. It's a sad thought to imagine comic fans "getting over" guys like him.
I don't understand why many younger comic fans think classic art styles must be "gotten over," since older styles influenced the newer styles. The 1960's and 1970's especially are full of revolutionary work. By NO means should anyone HAVE to like them, but artists like Aparo represent major evolution in comic art, and his work in particular still holds up to me and I'm under 30.
Nice touce w/ him flicking the sea weed off his arm. You can tell from how thin the A-man is that this is Aparo from the early 70's, pre the later Adventure run.
Like JD, I'm wondering if this is from the final issue of the original Aquaman run (#56) - THE CREATURE THAT DEVOURED DETROIT!
Cute panel! I LOVE the cover to issue #56. It's one of my all-time favorites. In fact, that was the very first issue I picked up of Aquaman when I started my back issue collection of the character. I was so taken with the cover, I simply HAD to have it.
