Library Heroes Bookmark - 2000

sg
F.O.A.M.er William Doughty sent me this promo bookmark featuring some DC heroes talking up local libraries--kind of ironic, really, since at the time this was made (its copyrighted 2000), most libraries I went to didn't carry comics at all. Luckily, by now that's changed a bit.

The artwork is from a poster DC put out a couple of years earlier, so they could only feature a slice of it on the bookmark: which is why you don't see mainstays Batman, Flash, or Green Lantern: they got cropped out. Thank Neptune Aquaman was standing next to Superman when they all posed for the piece!

Thanks Bill!

Would anyone but Aqua-fans or comic book fans even KNOW it was Aquaman, though? Nothing "classic" in that piece of him.

But better than nothing, right?

Very interesting. Do you have a scan of the full poster that you could post rob!?

Also WHO is standing inbetween WW and Aquaman?

Wings--Yeah, I know.... *sigh*

Joe--I thought I had posted the poster here, but I haven't! Now I gotta go find it.

BTW, I believe that's Artemis between Dinaa and Arthur.

Yeah it's Artemis. WB Stores released this image as a puzzle too. I have it somewhere...

DC does some cool things with libraries. A few years back they issued a poster of Barbara Gordon walking past a library window, and casting a reflection of Batgirl. The art was by Gene Ha. Of course Barbara hasn't been a librarian or walked for over 20 years. Sigh

True, Earth 2 Chris, but librarians love them some Barbara Gordon.

Don't I know it! My wife is a librarian!

This art was not from a poster---it is from a limited edition print by Jerry Ordway and Karl Keser called "Strength In Numbers." It was originally sold at the Warner Bros Studio Stores and the print run was 250. (I have number three of the run). I think the original price was around $200 but it goes for far more now, if you can find it. Both Aquaman and Tempest appear, along with 59 other DC heroes. Also, I'm pretty sure this was from the mid-1990s because the Dan Jurgens' Titans surround Garth (plus those stores closed with the AOL merger). I had a link for it on my Tempest site but will have to rebuild the page---I'll send a photo of the art to you, Rob. It's one of my favorites (and my nephews love to ask me to name every character)!

Sorry--that should read Karl Kesel, of course...!

Hi Tempest127. We also have the poster, but have misplaced the character key. Is it available on line?
Thanks,
