DC Super Friends Style Guide Art

sg
sg
These are two pieces of style guide art for the DC Super Friends line, done by...Mike Zeck! Yes, the same Mike Zeck that drew (IMO) the definitive Punisher and the nearly-definitive Captain America. Kind of amazing Zeck could transform his tough, muscular style of drawing into something so cheery and kid-friendly.

It seems that the DCSF line is kind of gone, in action figure form, at least, which is a real shame--I loved that Aqua-Sub, and would have to have seen it get more use in the DCSF world.

Fun Fact about the DCSF Aquaman: impossible to tip over!

I knew Zeck was doing quite a bit of style guide art for DC, but I didn't connect him to Super Friends!

The line isn't QUITE dead. It lives on as a subset of the Imaginext line, with Green Lantern, Flash and Hawkman out now, so Arthur may show eventually. There is a previously released Imaginext giant squid that would make a great playset partner for ol' Artie!

Oh, and there is the new Action Heroes Super Friends figures out, that are slightly smaller than the originals. So far only Batman characters, and one Superman in that line.

Zeck is crazy versatile.

Zeck comes from the old school, when folks had to really draw, not just ape comic book art.
