It's Adventure Sunday!
What the hell is that kid supposed to be? A little golfer?
Okay, anyway, this issue, Aquaman encounters...a mermaid?!?:
With the help of some finny friends, Aquaman frees the young lady, and returns her to Captain Jones. Aquaman tries to talk him out of using his daughter-as-fake-mermaid as an attraction, but Jones argues that's how he makes a living.
Aquaman has some words for that, but first he chases after the goons who kidnapped her, climbing onto their ship:

...and so ends another adventure with Aquaman!
Not only is Aquaman a hero, he's also got a damn good business sense. What a guy. I love him tossing a barrel of gasoline at the crooks--not the safest way to take out the bad guys, but definitely one of the most fun.
Also: Captain Zeb Jones later founded Skeptic magazine. True story!

I love Aquaman's gritty, crime novel line: "I never take payment in lead, rat!" Awesome.
Also, I was surprised that he let the mermaids work in the show, but then I remembered this was a different era. :)
This was really fun to read! :D Thanks for posting it.
Re: the Superboy cover: Yeah, I have no idea what's with that kid's clothes either. Maybe they're at Smallville's golf course?
Re: Aquaman: The line "I've explored every ocean on Earth and never have I seen a mermaid!" struck my interest. I assume the Golden Age Aquaman comics never had him meeting a mermaid?
To maximize the enjoyment factor of this story: read while listening to Flight of the Conchords "Mermaid".
Love Adventure Sundays!
James Chatterton
Joe--That's one of the GA Aquaman's all time great bon mots.
Simone--Come back every Sunday for a Golden Age Aquaman story!
Anthony--These GA stories are very "reality" based, in that there were almost never any fantasy elements--aliens, monsters, etc. This is Aquaman's first quasi-mermaid encounter.
James--Always look forward to your Sunday comments!
