Retro-Action Aquaman - 2010

sg
With so much Aquaman merchandise now being cranked out, I honestly can't buy it all anymore--space and money only go so far. I've been able to fill the gap by generous F.O.A.M.ers, who have sent me pics of various items so they can be highlighted on the Shrine (in some cases, I've been sent the items themselves!).

But in the case of the Retro-Action line, I had to make an exception.

These Mego-esque dolls started rolling out in the middle of the year, and they are designed to be pitch-perfect (okay, slightly better than pitch-perfect) clones of the classic Mego dolls of the 1970s, from the styling of the dolls to the use of old-timey stock art on the packages. Even the color registration is off a bit, a detail either truly accidental or on purpose.

The back of the card features poses of the four dolls in this wave, using art by Jose Luis Garcia Lopez and the late, great Dick Giordano:

These really are beautiful pieces, and as you might have guessed, I bought Black Manta, too--be back here tomorrow!

I love these action figures. Paul Clarke and Mattel did a great job re-creating these Mego Classics. I just need Black Manta to complete my set. These are too sweet. I am looking forward to the next wave coming out next month.

I got Retro Arthur as an early Christmas present that week--mine actually stands pretty good on his own outside of the box. He's really awesome. No Black Manta yet, though!

Every shop I've visited never has Aquaman left - which ais a great change from Aquaman being the only one left!

Guess I'm going to have to shop online!
