"Ah, Yes, Killing Aquaman" - 2010

sg
F.O.A.M.er Chuck "D.C." Dill caught this throwaway line (check the last panel) in the newest issue of Action Comics, #895.

At first I thought this was the lead-in to some Aquaman guest-spot, but then I noticed that this sequence takes place sometime in the past, so obviously this was a plan of Vandal Savage's that never came to fruition (thankfully). Why writer Paul Cornell chose Aquaman to be the target of Savage's then-latest scheme, I know not, but its a funny gag nevertheless--there are all sorts of skirmishes in the DCU that we never get to see!

Good catch Chuck, and thanks!

Aquaman did foil Vandal Savage's plan during "Sword of Atlantis" but again is that canon... and like you said this story takes place in the past.

Maybe this could be a future issue of the new Brave And The Bold teaming up Aquaman and The Golden Age Flash?

I'd rather this never be addressed again--seems so cool as a one off. Not only is Aquaman a big enough deal that his destruction is important to Vandal Savage's plans, he needs a whole crew with him to pull it off, AND he fails! Outrageous!

I guess Scandal Savage was born in the early '90s as of right now, since Vandal is wearing a prototype of his suit from his Justice League Task Force appearances. Appropriate, since he was trying to kill another of his daughters and steal her son for organ "donation" around that time.

Paul Cornell's Action Comics is awesome.

Hopefully before Lex's series of villain vs villain confrontations is over he'll cross paths with Ocean Master - if all Aqua foes aren't off bounds during the Brightest Day revamp.
