Its a handsome book, and making it a softcover they managed to keep the price down (a HC version of a book this size would probably run about $50), which is always appreciated.
That said, I had a chance to thumb through it today, and, out of 100 covers--and I think you can guess where this is going--there is not a single Aquaman solo cover in this book. Aquaman does appear on one of the covers--Justice League of America #21--and he's also represented on one or two of the smaller covers running on the opposite side of the page. But as a solo star, Aquaman is nowhere to be seen.
"But Rob,", I hear you saying, "they only had 100 covers to pick from out of the literally tens of thousands of comics DC has printed over the years. Surely many of the company's most famous characters are also absent."
In response to that, let's run through some of the characters who are represented in this book: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Golden Age Flash, Golden Age Green Lantern, Hawkman, Golden Age Hawkman, Atom, Plastic Man, Captain Marvel, The Creeper, Hawk and Dove, Angel and the Ape, Binky, John Constantine, The New Teen Titans, Prez, Swamp Thing, Metamorpho, Sandman, Golden Age Sandman, The House of Mystery, Green Arrow, Mr. District Attorney, The Joker, Frank Miller's Ronin, Batgirl, and Catwoman.
I would love to know what the selection process for this book was, and how close to making it in Aquaman got. Is DC and/or Quirk (the publisher) seriously telling us that none of these covers rated?:

You are totally right, sir. One cover out of 100 is NOT much to expect. Missed opportunity, indeed.
That sucks. The Nick Cardy covers of Aquaman are some of the most beautiful covers ever done.

Maybe we can get JH Williams to do an Aquaman cover so that he does end up in the next book. One can dream.

But, Rob! Your own cover list ignores any Peter David Aquaman version! Why? He was cool too... y'know harpoon-hand and all.
I would have thought the Blackest Night no. 2 cover would have been an amazing addition. I also saw the book today and thought there were missed opportunities. I didn't buy it.

Zoner--No disrespect intended; I just quickly thought of 4-5 iconic Aquaman covers and those were the ones that popped into my head.
I had this on my Wish List on amazon.com so I guess I'll go take it off. I mean, really, no AQUAMAN and no JLA except #21? pshaw, fergetaboutit
I'll probably still get this...are there some Cardy Teen Titans covers at least? I realize original Titans tends to get played down in favour of New Teen Titans.

I agree Aquaman deserves a cover or two, considering his role in the JLA. But so does Mr. District Attorney!
