Starro Trading Card by Skybox - 1992

sg
This image looks a tad familiar, does it not?

Of course, its supposed to--its a (then-)modern take on the classic Brave and the Bold #28 cover featuring the JLA fighting the giant alien starfish known as Starro The Conqueror.

This time, its the Justice League Europe line-up, which for a time consisted of Aquaman, Flash, Green Lantern, Power Girl, Metamorpho, and...someone I can't quite make out (anyone know who that is at the bottom left?).

This card is another reminder I need to pick up those issues of Justice League Europe that feature Aquaman as a member. I've never read them before, so I need to get cracking!

I think that's Animal Man on the left, no?

It looks like either Booster Gold or Checkmate, neither of which makes any sense. The other actual JLE members at this time were Dr. Light, Elongated Man, and Crimson Fox.

I think it's Booster. Booster was still in the JLA at the time, so it kind of makes sense.

Those JLE issues were not the greatest rob! My shop has the run in the .25 cent bin fyi.

I'm fairly certain it's Animal Man, given that he was actually a member of the JLE at the time, as opposed to Booster Gold.

It's Animal Man's hair AND costume, just without the jacket.

Take a closer look at the color scheme - blond hair; gold shoulders, gloves and leggings; dark mask, sleeves and boots; and the capper, looks like bracelets/gauntlets on both wrists. That's Booster.

I give you... Animal Man.

They have pretty similar costumes, actually, and neither one truly matches the one pictured. That guy is like a hybrid of Booster and Animal Man.

That said, if it really is supposed to be the Justice League Europe (and I think it is, as Rob has said), Booster Gold was never in the JLE. Animal Man was a founding member. Granted, GL is in the picture, and he was never a full-fledged member of the JLE, but he definitely made appearances with them, whereas the only crossover between Booster and the JLE is when Booster was in the Conglomerate. To me, that makes it more likely to be Animal Man (sans his denim jacket).

But what I imagine is really going on here is that somebody drew this picture for the card specifically vague so a bunch of comic book fans would argue about it 20 years after the fact.

Sticking to my guns though... Animal Man. Someone call SkyBox.

Rocky-

You make a good case. DANG I wish I had the actual card on hand so I could scan it in and give everyone a closer look!

The coloring just doesn't seem like Animal Man to me, but with no better guess I think that seems the most likely answer. Anyone have Skybox's phone #?

According to this site, it's Booster, with a larger picture:

Okay, now I'm convinced its Booster. I hope I can get to sleep tonight!

It's gotta be Booster. Animal Man was long gone at that point AND he always wore a denim jacket over his basic suit.
