Justice League Pin-Up - 1996

sg
This striking shot of the ret-conned original JLA is by Mike Zeck, from the Green Lantern Gallery one-shot DC put out in 1996. I particularly love Aquaman's about-to-dive pose.

I've loved Zeck's work ever since I first saw it on Captain America in the early 80s. He's simplified it a bit here--this look would be perfect for an all-ages JLA book, if DC ever decides to do one.

Interesting! I don't think I got the '96 edition, though I was throwing up some stuff from the '97 on my blog just recently. I don't think I've ever seen a DC Zeck image, but I was a big fan of Secret Wars when it came out. This has almost a Mike Allred look to it.

I love Zeck's work - easily one of the main culprits in my early addiction to comics!

I get why the big three have been put back into the founding League line-up but I was fine when it was just these guys too.

I wish that just once Aquaman could be centre stage for one of these things y'know?

Aaron--You're right, this doesn't immediately look like Zeck's stuff.

Dan--I loved MZ's work very early on too. I have pics of me as a wee lad reading an issue of CA he did.

Saranga--Point taken, but it WAS a Green Lantern pin-up book. :) If only they had done an Aquaman one!

ahh well, I suppose we can (just) forgive Hal for being centre stage in his own book.
