These are pics of Midtown Comics, a great, sprawling comic book store located in the heart of Manhattan. I try to stop in there every time I'm in NYC (which is not enough), and its pretty much everything a comic book fan could ask for in a LCS.
Except...check out the characters in the window, specifically the DC ones: you've got Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, and...Captain Marvel?
This kick in the pants towards Aquaman is only further proof that my rambling essay from 2008, My Grudge Against Shazam!, is not only completely justified, but still in effect, long after The Big Red Cheese stopped being a TV star.

In my opinion, even worse is how static the DC characters look compared to their Marvel counterparts. As disjointed as the Marvel art is, being culled from various sources, it just screams "action" and "dynamic." You could say the DC characters look more regal and commanding... but you could also say they look pretty boring.
Hmm, I don't know--the DC ones are meant to be sort of a set, but I understand what you're saying.
This kind of thing happened with the 1970s Slurpee cups: the DC ones were drab with the names of the characters underneath in boring, plain text. The Marvel ones were brightly colored, with exciting poses, and character logos.
