This issue of Brightest Day opens Hawkman and Hawkgirl staring straight into their past, literally. Via a magical gateway, they get glimpses of all their previous lives. and when they come out the other side, they--and we--are not sure where they are:

We then cut to the bedroom of Dove, where Deadman is making an impromptu visit. He is shocked to discover that not only cane Dove see him, but so can her partner Hawk, who is not the most patient of men.
But he lets Deadman explain himself, and when he mentions the mysterious White Lantern ring he's wearing, Hawk gets an idea.
Meanwhile, in the deserts of New Mexico:

Sadly, that's pretty much all the Aqua-content we're getting in this issue. Following this sequence in New Mexico, there's a scene with some Coast Guard getting attacked by what looks like...the Red Lantern Mera and a small band of armored up henchmen!:

Anyway, after a small interlude with Firestorm, we meet back up with Hawk, Dove, and Deadman, at the gravesite of the original Dove. Hawk has one small request: for Deadman to use his ring to bring Hawk's brother back to life.

Aquaman seems to take every even numbered issue of Brightest Day off (there are a lot of characters flying around here), so presumably he'll back in two weeks for Brightest Day #5!

What does "She was sent here to kill me" mean? The Red Lantern Mera?
I'm assuming these are just Mera's people--and the resemblance is that this is Mera's sister or something? Man, am I excited for new Aqualad.
From what I could gather after reading the DCU blog, The Source, This Mera look-alike is a new Aqua-foe called Siren.
An I think that the "She was sent to kill me" think means that maybe well find out that Mera was sent to kill Aquaman... that would kinda fit with Deadman's vision from Issue Zero
Pretty clear they're from Mera's dimension. Look at the henchmen; they all have hard water weapons. I'm up for any attempts to broaden the Sea King's rogue's gallery.
yeah, I dont think that's Mera in any way, either. its just people from her dimension, and I had forgotten about the Siren thing from the Source. so, yeah, that's probably her.
There are lots of discussions on the DC boards as to the identity of the Mera doppelganger: her long lost twin sister Hila, her royal nemesis V'lana, or the "Siren" that Geoff mentioned. My guess given the family resemblance is that its Hila, who may be going to take the code name Siren, but who knows?!?
To say the least I am hooked on Brightest Day even more now!

Yes, the hard water weapons would certainly seem to reinforce that these guys are from Mera's home dimension. I think it'll turn out that Mera was sent as an advance scout for their invasion of our dimension.
