Brightest Day #2 - July 2010

sg
Comics Weekend "Nuclear Options" by Geoff Johns, Peter J. Tomasi, Ivan Reis, Pat Gleason, and more.

This issue of Brightest Day opens with Firestorm getting an assist from an old friend:
sg
After an unexpected explosion seems to engulf Firestorm, The Atom, and Professor Stein, we are transported to Pearl River, New York, where news of Aquaman and Martian Manhunter's return from the dead seems to inspire another grisly murder. Ick.

We then follow Manhunter, and then Hawkman and Hawkgirl. Finally, we cut over to Dubai, picking up right after BD #1, with Aquaman and Mera having dropped off the Somali pirates they thwarted. Deadman is also there:

sg
...unfortunately for us Aqua-Fans, that's it for the Sea King in this issue. After this, we follow Deadman as he encounters...the Anti-Monitor?!?

To be continued!

With a cover like the one you see above, I really expected a lot more Aquaman this time around, instead of what we get here, which is essentially a cameo.

But Aquaman did get a lot to do last issue, and he'll have more chances to strut his stuff in later issues, I'm sure. Thank Neptune that Brightest Day comes out bi-weekly!

LAME! Great cover, but very little payoff inside. Like you said, good thing this is bi-weekly.

Wow, yeah. Almost like the cover is on the WRONG issue!

Agreed with Wings -- oh, comics. I had almost forgotten how much I hated the whole "bait and switch" cover thing. Oddly, I think I would have been slightly less annoyed by it if that cover hadn't also had the "Dead Sea King" title. Is it really too much to expect that the TITLE on a comic's cover has something to do with the story inside? Really?

I too hope that we get back to the Aquaman storyline in subsequent issues. It's just... weird.

(Maybe Aqua-fans should take it as a compliment? That they thought this cover would sell more issues than a cover featuring one of the main stories of the issue, i.e. Firestorm, the Atom, or the Hawks? Any of which, I submit, would have made more sense for this issue's cover.)
