Super-Hero Shrinky Dinks

sg
Remember Shrinky Dinks? No, me neither!

Actually--I do remember Shrinky Dinks, I just never had them as a kid. I saw the commercials for them approximately fifteen million times in the 1970s and early 1980s, but a toy you had to bake just let me completely disinterested. I don't recall ever seeing an ad for Super-Hero Shrinky Dinks--maybe if I had, I might have changed my mind.

This set--sent to me F.O.A.M.er Jon Knutson--features two different Aquaman designs, and even has Aquaman on the box, a fairly unusual thing.

Seemingly even more unusual is the use of Batgirl over Wonder Woman--but if you look close, you'll see Wonder Woman is nowhere to seen in this set, which makes me think that Diana--who was a TV star at this point--got her own Shrinky Dinks set. She probably never let her other Super Friends forget it.

Thanks Jon!

Well, I remember Shrinky Dinks. I even had tons of them as a kid. I don't think I had any superhero ones, but I remember having this set of the Muppet Show. It had seriously like 500 characters with it.

Heya! The Shrinky Dink material is still available at Michael's and Hobby Lobby. If you have those sheets you can still use them, or any other superhero art you might have! We made some from Super friends coloring books and painted them ourselves.

You're quite welcome, Rob!

I had this Shrinky Dink set as a kid. I remember being frustrated because it only came with four colored pens:blue, red, green, and yellow. There was no gray to do Batman's body suit. I think I ended up coloring it in red, but Shrinky Dinks were still cool...limited pen colors or not.

thanks for these blasts from the past, Rob! both Underoos and Shrinky Dinks hold a special place in my heart. I loved them when I was a kid. I didn't have this particular set, although I wish I had.

Rob,
Like you, I saw the commercials for these things but never had them.
Bronze Tiger,
I have a Hobby Lobby in my town... I'll have to go check those out! Homemade Shrinky Dinks? Awesome!!! I'll keep everyone posted.

I actually had these sets as a kid also. I remember making a switch plate cover with them. I solved the gray issue by using a pencil to color it in.

We had lots of shrinky dinks when I was a kid, but I don't remember having a superhero set. Seems like we had more mundane cartoon characters. I think I remember Scooby Doo and stuff like that. I've actually talked about these recently with my kids, though, and may have to make a trip to hobby Lobby to get some so they can try them out too.
Thanks for the blast from the past this week Rob!

I never saw this set, but I had a Marvel one. It must've been from around the time of Secret Wars as it had Wolverine and Magneto in it. It was the only set I ever had and I didn't understand why the instructions said you could only bake one at a time, which I thought was a waste of time, so I baked them all at once only to have them harden before I could flatten them out, so they were all warped and useless. Joy.

I remember Shrinky Dinks, too. Didn't have the Super Hero set, though. I think I may have had Scooby-Doo, but I may be remembering wrong.
