Sea Fathom

sg
This is an alternate Aquaman named Sea Fathom, sent to me by our newest F.O.A.M. member, Chris Fuentes. Chris sent me a wonderful email today, on the occasion of Aquaman's birthday, and I thought I'd share it with all of you:

I'm Chris Fuentes, I'm 19 years old and I'm a Aquaman fan!

Being Aquaman's Birthday, I would like to not only say "Happy Birthday!" to the Monarch of the Waves but though it is only fitting to say a "Thank you for everything" to you and the Shrine. Because without it I would've never rediscovered my love of the ocean and Aquaman.

I grew-up watching the Superfriends and even woke-up early to catch the Superman/Aquaman Hour (nothing compares to the old Filmation episodes). As a kid, Aquaman stood out the most to me. His bright orange shirt made it easy to locate him in a crowd and the ability to command whales and other exotic marine animals that I would've probably never seen if it wasn't for Aquaman or Seaworld. Not to mention back then I had blond hair much like the Sea King.

My grandfather, who is a big fisherman and boat junkie has a house on the beach and every summer he would take the whole family. When I was at the beach or just plain bored fishing I would daydream and play as Aquaman, had some really good times.

Sadly as I grew older and been exposed to more heroes, I began to focus more on the likes of Batman, Spiderman, Captain America and Hawkeye. I became a Marvel-head and the only aquatic hero in Marvel was the Sub-Mariner and he was running around in speedos and no shirt, which in my naive-mind left me to decide that all aquatic heroes were "lame".

I'm not sure how or when I ran into your website but I remember enjoying your articles and began going back and reading some Aquaman comics, felt the magic again and it was like riding a bike again. I felt a personal connection with the Son of Atlantis more then ever. I even got my Scuba license thanks to Aquaman, I was lucky enough to swim next to a sea turtle and watch a moray sneak attack a school of fish. I'm planning to major in marine transportation now and I never been more satisfied. So in short...

Thank you Rob for everything!

As for Aquaman's birthday gifts: A picture of my tribute-hero from when I played Champions Online, the Sea Fathom!

This email made my day, and I can't think of a better way to end this day-long celebration of Aquaman's birthday than with Chris' message and a shot of his Aquaman stand-in, Sea Fathom (cool name, btw).

Thanks to everyone who stopped by, thanks to Chris for the great letter, and Happy Birthday Aquaman!
