Please don't laugh.
Back in 2001, I was trying to expand the reach of my illustration style, seeing how far I could go with it and still create a compelling portrait. So I did up a whole bunch of "real life" superhero portraits, and how could I not try my hand at an Aquaman?
While I think this piece is a valiant effort--I think the angle and the colors are nice--overall it just doesn't work. The face isn't right, its too dark, and it just looks like an orange shirt, instead of the costume we're all familiar with. Oh, well.
If you like, you can check out examples of my work over at my illustration site, Namtab.com. The stuff there is much better, I promise.

You give yourself insufficient credit. If you just add the word "SWIM" in Helvetica at the bottom, you'd have a very good Shepard Fairey Obama poster homage, years before he got there...
To me it looks like The Rock....
:-)
I still love your "real life" Flash you did for me a few years ago.
Not all bad, at all. I like the green in the background. Makes me think Green Lantern just did something with his power ring!
i like the face. that's one of the best things about it. he has a good expression.
I agree with Rab. You're being too harsh on yourself. The portrait is really really nice.
You ask me, it's a publishable piece.
