DCU Multi-Character T-Shirt

sg
This t-shirt is not a specialty shop, DC Direct-produced item, rather, it was seen for sale at a Wal-Mart by our newest F.O.A.M. member, Jason Motes Bowles, who commented: "I would have bought it strictly for Aquaman, but the other obscure goodies made it impossible to pass up!"

Indeed--there aren't too many(read: any) mass-produced t-shirts you see that feature Black Lightning, Red Arrow, Kilowog, or Mr. Terrific!

I don't recognize hardly any of the art styles represented on this shirt, even the Aquaman one. Anyone have any ideas?

In any case, good catch Jason, and welcome to F.O.A.M.!

How-- what-- You've got to be kidding me!!! I've waited months to cover this shirt, finally got pictures on Saturday, fought my new computer to adjust the pics tonight, and backdated/posted over the last couple hours! Sometimes, I believe in the devil, or at least a God with a sadistic sense of humor! Sorry to step on your toes, and if you find any of my pics useful, have at...

Word Verification: squal.

I've see this shirt, too, and I thought it was pretty cool other than one thing: I HATE that version of Martian Manhunter. I can't wear it based on principle LOL

Is it just me, or do a few of these heads look like they are pulled from the same picture? For example, isn't that part of Batman's cape (or Blue Beetle's wings?) behind Aquaman? Isn't that Nightwing's torso behind Batman? Is that Plastic Man behind Killowowgg?

I hate this version of Martian Manhunter, too, and I miss the ladies: Diana, Donna, Babs, Shayera, or Supergirl (whatever her name is nowadays) but any shirt with Red Tornado, Nightwing, AND Aquaman on it has to be bought and worn. :-)

Superman looks like he was drawn by Kevin Maguire...won't hazzard a guess on any of the others.

I picked it up at Wal-Mart a couple of months ago. I like the macho focus. I was at King's Island (Ohio amusement park) a few weeks ago and saw two other people with the shirt on. It's a cool shirt to wear because people recognize Superman and Batman, but they're so curious about who all the other characters are.

My Wal-Mart got this in last April. I've had it ever since. Sears has a similar shirt with different characters and artwork; Aquaman appears on that one also.

Being that I am a fan of Black LIghtning and Plastic Man I was happy when I was at Walmart and saw them on this shirt. But I have never been a fan of the mulit-character shirt. Usually there is a character you don't like on the shirt. So this shirt I passed up. I do hope that Tony Isabella got paid for the use of Black Lightning.

this shirt cracks me up. i see it in Walmart all the time - look at it closely... nearly every black character on the shirt is colored like they're white! i was going to post this on my blog as "Wal-Mart and DC Release New White Lightning T-Shirt."

thing is, i know it's not the shirt designer that messed up because the little shirt art that Walmart places above each shirt bin features the characters looking right. it's just the actual t-shirt printer that somehow got their stuff mixed up.

in fact, i've seen two versions of this shirt at the store in the past few months - one with the characters correct and then the incorrect version like this.

Nick, I noticed right away that this shirt features ALL of DCU's black super-heroes (isn't that Jason Roush as Firestorm, too?).

It is odd that their skin tone is so dialed down.

We Aqua-fans often gripe about how the Sea King is not often given his rightful place in DC merchandise items and are glad when he's included. Well, imagine the surprise of Red Tornado, Black Lightning, Blue Beetle, Mr. Terrific and yes even Kilowog fans when they see this shirt. Great looking shirt!

The black characters are a tad light, but still look black, but Firestorm is clearly white, so it's Ronnie Raymond. Definite head-scratcher, considering most everyone else is up-to-date.

Wow! I guess I don't go to Wal-Mart enough as I've never seen this. It's got Firestorm too! I'll have to see if my local Wal-Mart still has this in-stock.

I'm having a hard time placing the art also, but it looks familiar. Perhaps something from Countdown?

Oh man, I just sent an e-mail out about finding this shirt over the weekend! I just did a post on the Arrowcave about it too! I guess that'll teach me to stop reading the Shrine for a few days!

Hmm... I don't think they are all from the same book, but I could be wrong. I was thinking that Batman, Nightwing and maybe Flash were by Bart Sears. I'll agree that Superman looks like Kevin McGuire. Should be easier to track down who did the J'onn & Roy as they've not had those new looks very long.
