Mego Carrying Case - 1974

I can't believe I've never gotten around to this before now!

This is a Mego World's Greatest Super-Heroes carrying case, pic sent to me by our newest F.O.A.M. member Anna Scherer.

The case was designed to carry the line's first four figures, Superman, Batman, Robin, and Aquaman. Apparently the case shown in the above photo was hit by a train, traveling at a fairly good clip.

Here's another pic of the case, from the super-awesome Mego Museum:
Apparently, almost every example of the case you'll find nowadays will have that big glue stain, right there over Aquaman. The Sea King can never catch a break.

Anna tells me she "has a pretty good Aquaman collection going and would love to be a member."

Email and ye shall receive Anna, and welcome to F.O.A.M.!

Yay! It's my favorite "Aquaman-running-instead-of swimming-pose"!

"Hot diggity, it's Sloppy Joe Day in the Royal Atlantean cafeteria! Time to beat me feets!"

That's a Dick Giordano pose, right? I love it based on sheer oddness. Cool case, though, never seen it before.

Actually, the Mego Aquaman artwork MAY have been a redraw of a Flash figure from none other than Showcase #4!

Look no further than the great Mego Museum:

Speaking of Mego, did any of you hear the latest out of the San Diego Comicon? Mego is back... with the World's Greatest Super Heroes line (apparently DC only at this point)! The initial offering is going to be Green Arrow, Superman, and new to the line - Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), Sinestro, and Lex Luthor (in classic 70s purple and green spandex battle suit). No mention of Aquaman, but I can't see him not being part of the line-up at some point. Maybe if enough of us pester the guys making them (Dr. Mego and company in cooperation with Marty Abrams from the original Mego Corp. & Mattel), they'll put out a Black Manta and Mera too!
