Comics Weekend The final issue of DC Challenge!As we talked about the last two weeks, Aquaman's role in the sprawling story that was the DC Challenge pretty much peaked in issue #4, after he was rescued by the Martian Manhunter and Zatanna.
He made an appearance in issue #7, written by our pal Paul Kupperberg, only to disappear from the series again until this, the final issue, where almost everyone who had come before got to be "on stage" for the finale.
This issue's story, titled "Fathers Against Suns" is by a whole host of people--Mark Evanier, Dan Mishkin, Roy Thomas, Gerry Conway, Marv Wolfman, Len Wein, with art by Dan Spiegle, Denys Cowan, Luke McDonnell, Rick Magyar, Stan Woch, Jan Duursema, Steve Lightle, Gary Martin, Ross Andru, Frank McLaughlin, and Tom Mandrake. Whew!
Unfortunately, Aquaman doesn't get a lot to do in this final issue. He's on the splash page where there's a montage of past events:
Even here, Aquaman pretty much just stands around. But, entertainingly, he's really bossy! Check him out here telling Superman and Flash what to do:
...and here he is again, even more bossy, chiding the rest of the JLA to get their butts in gear:
...you tell 'em, Aquaman!
And so ends Aquaman's (minimal) participation in DC Challenge.
I guess I could've wished for more Aquaman action in the series, but being an Aquaman fan means learning to live with diminished expectations--so I'm just happy he was included at all!
(Note: I had originally intended to write about DC Challenge #7 today. I assumed when I bought it off eBay last week it would've arrived by now, but it looks like the joke is on me. So look for it next Saturday, and sorry for the out-of-orderness!)

As I recall, it's a great comic book! Who did that issue again?
That's a pretty cool cover there. I like how Darkseid is the point of the exclamation mark. Its a shame Arthur didn't get more to do in this issue, but he does show off his natural leadership abilities.
