AquaSketch by Bob Petrecca - 2007

sg
Not all of my sketchbook sketches are obtained at comic cons--sometimes I'm lucky enough to get to meet a comic pro at my local store, All Things Fun, which is always a, well, fun time.

Last Summer, inker Bob Petrecca (Justice League Unlimited, Manhunter, even an Aquaman: Secret Files) made an appearance at ATF and I asked him for a sketch. Getting a new Aquaman sketch while shopping for comics remains, for me, one of the best ways to spend a day.

After not too long Bob handed me this fine portrait of the Sea King, who has a touch of that Jim Aparo-style wavy hair. Thanks Bob!

F.O.A.M. member Rick Phillips (who has almost as many blogs as I do) sent this tantalizing little article from the newest issue of TV Guide.

Not only do we get Batman and Aquaman teaming-up, but we also get Black Manta and, as revealed in the article, Ocean Master! Holy Saturday Morning!

I can't wait to see this thing. Thanks Rick!

The Brave and the Bold looks to be a lot of fun. Taking Batman back in a less grim direction is actually bold and daring. I'm hearing fall mentioned for this show a lot, but I thought they pushed it back to spring 2009?

I am pretty pumped for a kid friendly Batman, I've had to turn off "The Batman" a number of times and have nothing but positive energy towards this interpretation.

I don't know about those "Pretty Woman" boots Manta is sporting...

You're welcome and with them showing Aquaman in this still I would imagine he would be in the first show. If not maybe the second. They both have been in the business a long time so better to start with a seasoned vet then the (ugh) new Blue Beetle.

I'm never going to get over that pointy beard. Regardless, Black Manta looks killer, so all's well. Has "Ocean Master" ever appeared in cartoon form?

Ocean Master appeared on Timm's "Justice League" in "The Enemy Below" in Season 1, but only as Orm Marius. No fishy/spiky mask, unfortunately (always liked that mask). I don't know if he's ever been featured anywhere else. I'm also looking forward to this show; should be fun to see the new interpretations of DC's finest. Hope there's a toy line too.

Wow, an actual appearance by Ocean Master in full villain garb? That is pretty awesome! I don't know about Black Manta's purple suit, or his riding boots, but the helmet looks pretty awesome. Like I said before, I HOPE this show is what it should be.
