Aquaman DC Stars Trading Card - 1996

sgThis is the Aquaman card from the 1996 "DC Stars" trading card series. To my eye it looks like it's by Ken Hooper, who drew the brief 1991 Aquaman series.

This card(and one other, to come) was sent to me by F.O.A.M. member Ilke Hincer, who has cost me untold amounts of money. I say that because he's always sending me eBay links for cool Aqua stuff that, once I see it, I feel compelled to end up buying. So I have conflicted feelings about Ilke.

I can relate Rob, as I'm starting to have the same dealings with Ilke. Atom & Hawkman stuff from all corners of the world are being brought to my attention, thanks to Ilke.

What once could have been a nice family home to live in, has turned into bundles of Atom & Hawkman goodness.

Sure, I'll have to patch them all together to build a house out of them, but who cares!

I really like the Hooper art, and Shaun McLaughlin's low-key efforts as well. Shame the series didn't pan out, though I'm not sure it was an issue of sales so much as a strategic cancellation before a high profile relaunch (see also: Chuck Dixon's Green Arrow.)

I have these cards somewhere, but they don't look quite the same way. Specifically, the borders look different. Or am I remembering them wrong? I'll have to check my storage stuff. Could there have been different versions of the same cards?

Most of the art from the DC Stars cards are from an earlier set Skybox did. I can't remember the exact name, but I have them both at home. The original set was the first new DC set in years, during the non-sports trading card boom of the early 90s.
