Mera Who's Who Entry - 1986

sg
I posted a bunch of AquaFamily Who's Who pages but never got around to this one--shame on me!

Mera's entry is drawn by John Workman, more famous for his lettering, but I thought he did a nice job here. This was just before the era in comics when every superheroine had to look like a porn star on Spanish Fly, so here Mera gets to look beautiful but dignified, as befits a Queen.

DC occasionally let some cool art experimentation happen in Who's Who--in addition to John Workman drawing Mera here, Marv Wolfman penciled the Plasmus entry, and Mark Evanier did the honors on the Yellow Peri!

Workman did do a really nice job there.

I wonder what his porn queen would have looked like...

Workman seems to get penciling chores when someone wants a Mike Sekowsky-type JLA drawn. I know during the Silver Age event (remember that?) he drew some JLA pieces.

Nice Mera, but why not Aparo or Cardy on this entry?

I like his Mera, especially how the costume seems reflective.

And take THAT, Black Manta!

LOVED the Who's Who! Thanks for sharing this one.

Another interesting crossover contribution - William Messner-Loebs drew the Human Bomb.

Ahh, Mera, one of the greatest supporting characters ever...on the rare occasions when she's written well. Great stuff Rob, I love the Who's Who entries!

editor mike carlin drew sleez, the byrne created 4th world villian, another rare glimpse of the talents of the people you don't traditionally associate with comic "art"! fun post.

The first Who's Who I ever bought featured Despero by Larry Hama.

Workman did a lot of pin-up work in that time period. I recall liking an Iron Maiden he did for Singer's T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents.
