Halloween 2007

sgWell, it was bound to happen eventually...

When our friends Dan and Anna invited us to a Halloween Costume Party, I knew there was only one choice for me...the problem was, it's really, really hard to find an Aquaman costume, any Aquaman costume. If only I had been running The Batman Shrine for the past year...

Anyway, just when I thought it was hopeless, a company called
Comic Costumes posted a whole line of super-cool deluxe superhero costumes on ebay, like Superman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Robin...and Aquaman! Complete with trident!!

I decided to throw caution, my finances, and any sense of shame out the window and ordered the costume. I was worried that I might not be able to fit into it, but as you can see I was. Never have I been more aware of how exactly how overweight I am.

The photos here are:
1)My Alex Ross pose
2)Aquaman and Supergirl(aka Anna--it was she who, in February 2003, handed me a scrap of paper with Darlin' Tracy's phone number on it and told me I should call her. She was right.)
3) and 4)Aquaman, having just rescued a little mermaid(aka Rosemary, my friend Doug and Angela's adorably cheery kid), shows her appreciation
5)Oops! An hour is almost up, gotta get some water!

Trace joked with me all week that being able to dress up as Aquaman is my Ultimate Childhood Dream Come True, but that's not really right. I've gone to only one other costume party before, and it never even occurred to me until we got the invite in the mail. And with all the Aqua-related stuff going on in my life right now, it seemed like too good an opportunity to pass up. I contemplated shaving off my goatee for the full effect, but without it I look like I'm twelve, and I didn't feel like getting carded for the next couple of weeks.

I wasn't able to convince Trace to go as Mera; maybe next year...

(To those of you leaving comments: please be kind.)

That's one awesome costume Rob! What's next year? Bearded Pirate Aquaman maybe?

Happy Halloween, Rob!

Great costume Rob! Wear it proudly.

Rob, I think the costume fits you just right. Don't be so hard on yourself.

That costume with one of those rubber blond pompadour wigs would be cool. you'd look kind of like the Filmation Aquaman!

Great pics!

Looks great Rob. I have a pic to send you later (not of me).

If I had been a little more on the ball this year I would have gotten one of those costumes myself. Definitely next year tho. Hollow Happoween.

I've been a lurker at the Shrine for a while, Rob--I never miss a day's entry, even if Crimson Lightning has been put on hiatus--but I just had to emerge from my undersea cave and leave a comment on today's post. Indeed, you look great. What a fantastic costume! You're a true superhero, Rob!

That's awesome Rob!

How fun!

Be thankful you aren't running the Hawkman Shrine! That'd be a tough costume to find…

(Did you play in the tub?)

Happy Halloween, all!

You look great in the costume. If anyone deserves to be Aquaman for a day it is you. I would try to dress as a superhero but I've got to get more in shape then I am now. Hope you enjoyed the party.

Who is that "swift and powerful monarch of the ocean?" Could it be our humble host?

Very cool, Rob. Can I be Tusky next year? That physique I could pull off!

I went out a business caual IT guy today. It was pretty effective. No one really thought it was a costume.

Great job Rob!

Awesome, totally awesome! Don't feel bad about the Mera thing, my wife also refuses to wear a hero costume of any kind.

The costume looks great. I checked out their Atom costume a few weeks ago, and after regaining consciousness due to someone actually making an Atom costume, I thought it looked kinda dopey. Yet it was only a small window of financial darkness that kept me from buying it.

These photos are five different kinds of awesome. I've been waiting to see them for weeks now, and even after the buildup of expectations they did not disappoint.

Dude, please remind us of this site next year. Your outfit looks great, and I'd love the rock a Ray Palmer Atom or Gatchaman Mark suit next year (now that I've lost a bit of tummy my own self.) I couldn't even pull off a Silver Age Martian Manhunter, though...

Thats a sweet halloween costume! You and your wife look AWESOME! Way to go!

All I can say is Wow! The costume is great. Now you just need the "hanging in mid-air" costume display from the Batcave so you can keep that outfit out all year long! :)

It looked just as impressive in person. There was one triumphant moment when Aquaman stepped out onto the deck and scanned the backyard in a regal, heroic manner. Then a cool breeze blew through his spandex and sent Arthur back inside for a beer.

That's a great shot of you and Rosemary.

that costume was pretty damn uncomfortable to wear after a short while; if i didnt have some sort of shirt underneath it wouldve driven me NUTS!
