"Justice" Action Figure - 2006

sgSince I have already posted the companion Black Manta figure from the Justice line, it's past due to talk about the Aquaman one, again via an Alex Ross design.

Ross is one of the best friends Aquaman ever had, since he's a professed big fan of the character, and he seems to go out of his way in his stories to give Arthur at least One Big Moment where he really gets to shine.

While I've professed my love for the visual approach Neal Adams and Jim Aparo gave Aquaman--a lithe, swimmer's body look--I do like Ross' beefy, solid-looking Aquaman, too. He looks like he can punch a tank!

That is a cool fig, I kinda dig the metallic finish Ross gives his Aquaman, it really makes it look "from the sea".

I would like this figure more if 1. DC Direct stopped doing that ugly "t-shape" crotch and 2. if he had his black swimsuit rather than his one-piece green leotard and 3. he didn't look so much like Superman with blond hair. (sigh)

I like the Justice figures on the whole, but I think this sculpt kind of misses the mark on Ross' Aquaman. It's close, but his face is a bit too bruish looking, IMHO.

I think Ross' ominous Black Manta is awesome, but I'm so tired of his stock austere heroes. Can we get a smile here?!?

While I did get Black Manta, I missed this in my LCS. I will have to hit eBay i guess. I am anxiously awaiting the armored versions soon to come tho.
