"From the sublime to the ridiculous is but a step."--Napoleon, or maybe Jim Shooter
I thought the perfect post to follow yesterday's super-awesome Captain Action doll would be this piece, undoubtedly the saddest one in the collection. I bought this on ebay for about a buck. It's clearly Aquaman--"A" belt, green trunks, pointed gloves, scale-y shirt--but any other resemblance to something someone--anyone--would recognize as a superhero toy is purely coincidental. I don't have any other information as to its origins.
I feel bad for any kid that was supposed to find play value in this thing.

OK, other than the fact that Arthur looks like he is sporting his Ben Grimm Thing Halloween costume here is what this "toy" looks like to me.
Picture a young child, happily playing with a toy in some ravaged war torn wasteland. Suddenly, the bombs fall and an explosion envelops the poor child. From out of the rubble one tiny piece of plastic falls, showing us, the viewer, that the child has died. That is what this figurine looks like to me. A symbol of a child's demise. So sad.
wow, you took the ball and ran with it!
When I make my first war film, I'm going to write you to borrow this item!
Newt was originally supposed to be clutching this in ALIENS, but Cameron couldn't clear the rights.
interesting...and now James Cameron is directing the Aquaman movie on "Entourage." coincidence?
Email me at crooner@maine.rr.com. I want to send you a pic of this beautiful Aquaman tattoo I got done. The artist did an original piece from a few drawings. It extends from just above my palm all the way up the inside of my forearm. I'll also send you a pic of my Aquaman collection. Peace, man. GREAT site.

That looks like Richie Rich and The Thing had a kid. It looks like he may have been bitten by a radioactive Cheeto.
Having been a lifelong Aquaman fan, I really appreciate your site, Rob.

Ya know, I'm pretty sure I had this as a kid! Do you know if it has a wire filament under the rubber--at least within the limbs? I grew up in Western NY, and if I remember correctly, my mom purchased it for me at Big N department store which is now long gone. I think the had a couple other standard heroes too: Superman, Batman & Robin. Great site. I just stumbled upon it in an Aquaman Google search.
