JLA 11" Action Doll - 1996

sgEverytime I put up a piece of merchandise that has Aquaman in his Bedraggled Loser look, I wince. I think this was Aquaman's darkest period and the fact that this look made it onto merchandise annoys me to no end. Everytime I post a piece like this in the middle of all the other beautiful orange-and-green stuff I feel like it sticks out like a sore flipper.

So I decided to bite the bullet and get a bunch of it out of the way all at once. So all this week we'll be presenting merch that has this Aquaman on it. Some good, most of it bad. We'll resume to Classic Aquaman next Monday with something really fun, I promise.

Ok, anyway, this is an 11-inch action doll from Hasbro. I love the size, and the cloth costumes, and their posability (unlike the much-cooler-looking JLU ones, which just stand there like greek statues). Arthur's long, bouncin'-and-behavin' hair looks that much more awkward when molded into plastic, since it now hangs there, immobile, off the back of his head, his eyes turned away from the paying customer. Maybe there's some symbolism there.
