Specifically with DeMatteis, as he's arguably the greatest Martian Manhunter writer of all time. His obvious love for the character and humanist streak is what made me a fan. I'm always whispering in Mike Netzer's ear "Psst, if this campaign of yours pans out, work with DeMatteis..." He typically nods in agreement.
