You see, I bought my comic books from a little rack at 7-11, and I was a Marvel kid. However, this was largly due to DC's diminished presence on the newsstand in the early 80's. Since I grew out of Superman and Batman almost immediately, two of the only books I had the opportunity and desire to buy regularly were the New Teen Titans and Son of Ambush Bug.

In books like these, I was always seeing DC house ads for stuff like the Legion of Super-Heroes, Aquaman, Hex and Omega Men that piqued my interest. I didn't get to read most of them until my teens or later, though. One such title was "Shadow War," which featured one of the coolest promotional images of any comic ever. I liked the story, but my favorite aspect was the inks of Alfredo Alcala, whose absent spolied a lot of my interest in the ongoing.

While I was scanning images for my Justice League Detroit synopsis, I came across the image, but figured I'd just dig it up on the net. I couldn't find it, and I still can't believe I couldn't find it. Scanned that baby up right, I did, and made it my wallpaper. If ever there should be a license to swipe not a cover, not a splash, but a freakin' ad-- this was it! I like that image more than I like Hawkman as a character...Diabolu Frankhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04685199809207954223noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35995922.post-28815080445796192352007-10-05T15:41:00.000-04:002007-10-05T15:41:00.000-04:00Shadow War was a great read. The monthly lost steam pretty fast. Looks like editorial interference strikes again!!!

ChrisAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35995922.post-54685555061042367142007-10-05T12:37:00.000-04:002007-10-05T12:37:00.000-04:00I remember The Shadow War of Hawkman very, very fo...I remember The Shadow War of Hawkman very, very fondly. The Hawks were always two of my favorite characters (I just bought the Alex Ross Hawkgirl/woman action figure yesterday, the only one I've bought besides Arthur and Manta), so I looked forward to this series. Then when Arthur and Ralph guest-starred, I was in heaven. Good series, good issue, good comments!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35995922.post-47494354329682630002007-10-05T09:57:00.000-04:002007-10-05T09:57:00.000-04:00>>The Kelly Empire grows...bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha!!!>>And...>>The Kelly Empire grows...<<

bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha!!!

>>And that's a Good Thing - it's one of the neatest, coziest little corners of cyber-space.<<

thank you very much, sir!rob!https://www.blogger.com/profile/17556471244882205031noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35995922.post-65833098603519371112007-10-05T09:41:00.000-04:002007-10-05T09:41:00.000-04:00The Kelley Empire grows...And that's a Good Thing ...The Kelley Empire grows...

And that's a Good Thing - it's one of the neatest, coziest little corners of cyber-space.

(And if you're one of those guys that only visits one niche of that corner, you're cheating yourself!)

Great weekend, all-
-Craig W.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
