I've always preferred the Mego dimensions, articulation and costumes, but the stuff I played with as a kid were Mego knock-offs/successors, not the real thing. I did have a Green Arrow bought cheap and loose at a comic shop in the early '90s, but it was unsurprisingly stolen when I was bumming around a few years later.

I agree that at least part of the appeal of Mego is their "shared universe" of uniform licenses, though I also appreciate the diversity of manufacturers since. The role of Apes in launching mass licensing for kiddie fare can't be understated, and I firmly agree that laid the game out for Lucas.

I wasn't sure how well toys would translate to a podcast, but as it turned out, very very well. Thoroughly enjoyed this highly informative episode, and Brian Heiler's got a smooth radio voice.Diabolu Frankhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04685199809207954223noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35995922.post-63679725850969272162014-08-19T21:20:20.064-04:002014-08-19T21:20:20.064-04:00@Count--Yeah I love that commercial, it's so p...@Count--Yeah I love that commercial, it's so perfectly Mego. I knew as soon as I decided to do a Mego episode that I had to get it in there.

@E2C--Your collection is truly remarkable.

@Tim--The Fire and Water Podcast is single-handedly improving the economy!

@Anj--I hear you. There are a couple of Megos I want simply because they're so well done (Conan, for instance), but dang they are pricey now.rob!https://www.blogger.com/profile/17556471244882205031noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35995922.post-38578913662600956952014-08-19T11:11:28.166-04:002014-08-19T11:11:28.166-04:00Yeah, the FTC ReMego stuff is very exciting. I got their new Alfred figure, and despite a slightly oversized head, he's really nicely done.

ChrisEarth 2 Chrishttp://www.supermatescomic.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35995922.post-13936026333476813942014-08-19T09:09:20.279-04:002014-08-19T09:09:20.279-04:00Loved the episode as well. But there are some quasi-Mego-like figures coming out which are much more affordable. The way ...^Yeah, that Mego ad always cracked me up. The way they say "BA-LACK" is hilariously wrong. I give them points for making a Falcon, but sheesh. And then there was the stinger...with Ball Buster. How they ever got that came (and that commerical!) into production with a straight face is beyond me.

As a card-carrying, daily-posting member of the Mego Museum forums, it goes without saying I absolutely LOVED this episode. I've had the pleasure of meeting Brian at the annual Mego Meet twice, and he's a helluva nice guy, and font of information on all things toy geeks love. I consider myself pretty learned when it comes to Mego, and even I got schooled on a few new things here!

Fantastic episode gents! That thing cracked me the hell up!

"Green Arrow: crime-fighter from the forest!" Uh... He's not actually Robin Hood...

"The Falcon: that great BLACK superhero!" I have no words... I just love that so much!

"The Torch: faster than the speed of light!" Well, that certainly goes a long way to verifying Brian Heiler's assertion that the guy behind this line thought The Flash and Human Torch were the same character.

"Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Girl: both have the power of invisibility!" I guess if you can't make Reed stretch you might as well lie about his power set so kids don't think you've ripped them off.Count Drunkulahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18130778855882160092noreply@blogger.com
