what a fun story, even if I never bought the "comic time moves slower than real time" explanation.

I understand this story directly influenced The New Frontier.

Perhaps Steve Englehart's single best JLA story. Definitely one of my Top 10 fave JLA stories of all time.

  3. I like the idea that Rex the Wonder Dog decided to help out all on his own. That is one smart dog!

  4. Who is the dude with Vigilante's name over his crotch?

  5. That's the Asian member of The Blackhawks, "Chop-Chop." (Yes, that's his name). It looks awkward that he's standing so far away from the rest of his teammates.

  6. Yes, it does. It's like he's trying to pretend HE is the Vigilante. ;)

  7. I like that Jimmy Olsen showed up, assuming he could help with a problem so big Superman couldn't handle it by himself. That boy's got self-confidence.

One of favorite JLA issues when I was a kid. Englehart and Dillin at their best. I always felt that Rex was probably smarter than the average dog.

Rex: "Hmm, I'm a pretty good swimmer. I'll bet that means the orange guy can hear me telepathically. Give the dog a treat. Give the dog a steak."

  9. LOL!

Wow! What a flashback! I TOTALLY remember this.

I remember seeing this as a kid and thinking, "who the hell are THESE guys?"

Of course, as I became a bit older and familiarized myself with the DC Universe more, I grew to love some of them ;)

I liked the idea behind this story a lot; shares a special place in my memory w/ Showcase #100. It's most of the (Earth-1) DC heroes and their adventurous supporting characters who were active in the 50s. Robotman lasted in Dectecive Comics until Dec. 1954, almost until the intro of Martian Manhunter! And Congo Bill/Congrorilla until the early 60s! Doesn't that blow your mind? Sure, to be thorough, Supergirl, Zatara, Batwoman, and Captain Comet could have been thrown in there, but that's just quibbling. Great story.
