Aquaman Special Ad - 1988

sg
This ad was sent to me by newest F.O.A.M. member, and creator of the super-fun Tiny Titan blog, Damian Maffei.

Damian and I have been trading ads featuring our respective obsessions for a week or two, and I had forgotten all about this one until it popped up in my in-box. Thanks Damian!

It's a nicely done ad, handsomely designed and well executed, though I wonder why DC couldn't spring for the full-page...

  1. I'm liking Aqua's look there.

I also enjoy that small orange fish in the bottom left corner, who apparently is also taken with Aquaman's look.

  2. I must have missed this story. Is it any good?

  3. Because DC Comics doesn't care about Aqua-people!

No seriously, I think the special was just a continuity implant to bridge the Pozner/Hamilton mini-series and future appearances of Aquaman in his more easily licensed appearance. The story, as I recall a good thirteen years later, was "meh."

  4. its not bad, but when i interviewed dan mishkin here about it
    (http://aquamanshrine.blogspot.com/2007/03/aquaman-shrine-interview-with-dan.html)

he mentioned that he was instructed to dismantle a lot of what Pozner and Hamilton did, which was an odd editorial choice...

    The story was unimpressive.

But the art ... oh, the art! I'm a sucker for George Freeman.
