Aqualad "Legacy" Card - 2007

sgWhen I first mentioned these DC Legacy cards, I said that I just wanted the Aqua-related ones, which turned out just to be Aquaman and Aqualad(top art by Ramona Fradon, bottom by...Phil Jimenez?).

But soon after the eight-year-old in me came out(I mean, even more), and I found myself collecting the whole set, buying a couple packs at a time, and getting those trading card sleeve pages.

It's a fun set to collect, and I really like the then-and-now format(even if, a lot of the time, the then version turns out to be a lot more compelling). I only wish the set had been big enough to include Black Manta or Ocean Master--Aquaman deserves at least one bad guy represented!

My question exactly! To see so starkly the boy that turned into...that...! uggh. Tempest's costume must be one of the ugliest ever. Why they had to "grunge-up" Aquaman's blue camouflage costume, I don't know. I was just reading the Showcase Presents Teen Titans Vol 2 with the Dick Giordano-edited TT stories. Aqualad held up pretty well when he appeared. He's even kicking some serious Robin ass on the cover! Why/how did THAT character turn into THIS??? (sigh)

  3. I don't think that's Jimenez.

Aqualad was O.K. as a sidekick but him growing up to become Tempest was even better.
Love the costume, the powerset and the more serious attitude.

I used to love DC characters, no I hate them. Why are they all so angry? This is crud.

  6. Definately not Jimenez, which was where the mistake was made. I doubt there'd be so many compaints if the cover to Tempest #1 had been used instead. I like the repurposed suit, though a red/blue scheme would have been more suitable. The Fradon piece kind of creeps me out, actually.

  7. there are some weird art choices on some of these cards...that IS a really, really young Aqualad!

and while using Paul Norris on the old Aquaman side(esp now), it would seem using Cardy or Aparo (or Fradon!) would've made a little more sense.
